AUDITIONS: JOIN THE CHROMATICS!

Looking for another female voice

After many years, the Chromatics are in search of a new female voice. Ideally we’d like an alto, but we’ve been quite successful with 3 mezzos for years, so we’re open to any good singer who can blend with our other bright and dark voices and who doesn’t mind being one of the inner voices sometimes!

Requirements: reads music, strong soloist, open to singing about science, willing to ham it up on stage.
Desirements: a cappella experience, arranging or song-writing experience.
Perfect candidate: gets our wacky sense of humor, lives in Maryland, works in a tech field, loves purple.

We are a mixed sextet of singing techies based in Maryland in the triangle formed by DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. We perform about a dozen times a year, mostly in the DC/Maryland area, but have performed as far afield as Florida, California, and Connecticut. We have recorded 6 full-length CDs and a couple of EPs and our original tunes tend toward lyric-dense songs about science and our modern world. We rehearse once a week (or slightly less because of work-travel commitments) in suburban Maryland near Bowie. We share a passion for science, science fiction, wine, good food, and good blend, not entirely in that order. Our "official" short bio is below...

Short group bio

The Chromatics are a high-energy vocal band on a mission to delight audiences with a full spectrum of songs about science, technology, life, and their intersections. They have taken their astronomically-correct a cappella songs, a project called AstroCappella, from Palm Springs to Orlando and from Las Vegas to New York, and their CD has flown in space (no kidding!). Back down on earth they have captivated young and old alike at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the National Air & Space Museum, the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes, and numerous science fiction conventions, First Nights, festivals, concert series, and private parties. Their CDs have been nominated for multiple Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES) and Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs). After nearly 20 years together they are a mainstay of the local music scene and still bring a youthful exuberance to their fun-filled, colorful, and scientifically accurate performances.
